Opening Doors for National Manufacturing Day 2022

The Manufacturers’ Alliance has joined forces with Make UK to celebrate National Manufacturing Day 2022 on 7th of July.

It’s the first time MAKEUK have done this and the celebration has a number of obectives under the umbrella of celebrating the UK’s manufacturing sector, and its contribution to the economy. Working with the Department of Education to send information out to every school and college on how to get involved in the day’s activities, in addition to undertaking some political stakeholder work.

The most anticipated highlight of the day is Manufacturers have pledged to throw open their doors in a UK-wide Open House.

On the 7th July, 2022  communities across the UK will see the potential careers and jobs on offer within the diverse manufacturing sector. The day aims to engage with all age groups – inviting school leavers, graduates, people looking to reskill and the local residents.

For  Manufacturers, this is an opportunity to showcase the diversity and the range of highly skilled jobs on offer, highlighting the inspiring opportunities for reskilling and career development within manufacturing in the UK.

Manufacturers’ Alliance Peer Group member, and Managing Director of  Atec Engineering, John Bowden has pledged to throw open his doors explaining,

“Atec are opening our doors on 7th July for National Manufacturing Day, working with the Manufacturers Alliance, Make UK, and UK manufacturing as a whole, we have a responsibility to engage and inspire the next generation to explore a future within the manufacturing sector.

1-2-1 coachingWe are offering a tour of our facility, demonstrations of our equipment and a chance for students to ask any questions they have to our engineers, apprentices, and managers.

We are taking part in National Manufacturing Day in combination with hosting work experience weeks, our commitment to apprenticeships and the completion of our REACH mentorship programme with Walkden High School. Taking part in NMD has encouraged us to host days like this throughout the year by partnering up with local colleges to invite students onsite.”

Steve Foxley, CEO of the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) explains,

As an organisation that recognises people are our greatest asset, visitors will be able to meet some of our talented team and hear first-hand what inspired them to join us. It’s also a chance to show the diverse range of careers within the AMRC and the opportunities available through our apprenticeship programmes at the AMRC Training Centre where we’re equipping the talented engineers of tomorrow with the knowledge and practical skills they need to make a real difference to industry.
