On 23rd May 2018, the Manufacturers Alliance held its annual group meeting at the Heath Conference Centre in Runcorn. The 70 strong crowd gathered at the event were treated to a diverse group of speakers related to Industry 4 type technologies and digitalisation. Attendees also had the privilege to take a tour of the Hosokawa Micron facility as part of the days learning opportunity.
The energy at the event was electric all day. People were commenting on how they had never experienced a manufacturing event with such a buzz. Manufacturers openly sharing ideas with other manufacturers. No one selling or forcing business cards onto each other. A genuine caring attitude in the room of people who want to help each other.
The speakers were amazing too. Lots of stories of successes with technology. From low cost prototyping using Rasberry Pi, to tips on cyber security, to process monitoring and agile reporting. Whatever your current challenges, one of the speakers will have sparked a new idea. The day was just full of ideas and people sharing. Refreshing to say the least.
A few of the feedback comments from the attendees were:
“I gained so much new info and technology about how Industry 4.0 can be applied to my business and how we can start.”
“There was plenty of content to pick out ideas. Good to network.”
“It was great to have the chance to have time out of my business to experience varied ideas and people that could impact my business.”
“I enjoyed the tour of Hosokawa and the diversity of presentations. The energy in the room all day.”
“Always great to meet people with similar mind-sets.”
“It was good to learn that we’re already doing some of it! But not nearly enough!!”
“I have learned that it’s not as expensive as it seems. Can be implemented easily. Take small steps.”
“That we can implement low level data capture and connect things.”
“Great speakers and loved the openness of attendees.”
Iain Crosley, Manging Director at Hosokawa Micron summarised the event by saying, “What a bunch of pleasant and enthusiastic people, obviously the Manufacturers Alliance Culture is working, the noise at the breaks was a good indication of the interactions… which I believe is testament to everyone involved with the MA.”
